Roberts family
« on: Wednesday 10 September 08 02:31 BST (UK) »
Hi is anyone able to help.

I am looking Jane Roberts born in about 1854 in Aberegele, she married Joseph Hewitt in 1871 in Flintshire.  I am sure that her father is John Roberts and that she has a brother Robert as on the 1891 census it shows that Joseph Hewitt and a John Roberts were visiting a Robert Roberts in England during the census, at this time Jane was listed as the Head and married.  There daughter Jane Hewitt is my gr grandmother and was born 11 Sep 1890 in Buckley, Flintshire.

I just don't know where to start I feel so stuck.

Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy & welcome to Rootschat

It's best to start with grgrandmother Jane and work back following one line at a time.

To be sure of her parents - given the number of Roberts around you should obtain ggm Jane's birth cert.  This can be done online and costs £7

Censuses are the best way because they give family details.  Then follow that with BMD searches - or parish records if you can.

You've accessed the 91 census, have you accessed any other censuses?

I've found just one Jane Roberts born c1854 in Abergele in 1861

Pemfford, Abergele

John Roberts head M 42 Wheelwright  born Llanfair
Betsy   "        wife  M  46 Wheelwrights wife born Abergele
Jane    "        dau         6                                           "
Ann Jones  ma-law W 66 Midwife  born Abergele

Hello Amy,
on NW.bmd Jane Roberts married Joseph Hewitt at St Mary Mold in 1871. Next time I go to the Archives I'll get the details, that will give you her fathers name. I'll also check the baptisms in Mold and Abergele.

Paul

Added. Can you post the info from the 1891 census with Jane and Joseph please.

Hi all,

I cannot find the information in regards to the 1891 census, I may have obtained that when I had a trial access to Ancestery, without printing it, not very smart I know.

I know that Jane Hewitt was born 1890 in Mold, Flintshire, and her mothers maiden name was Roberts and her fathers christen name was Joseph, this information has been obtained from her son (my grandfather).  I found from the census that I have seen that the mothers christen name was also Jane and that she was born in Buckley, Denbighshire.

If someone could double check the census results as I no longer have access to this information.

Any help would be great.

Amy

1871

Nantmawr, Mold

John Roberts Head M 40 Coal Miner    b. Flint, Bistree
Mary              wife  M  40                         Denbigh, Abergele
Jane              dau    S  19                                          "
Robert           son        16                                          "
Mary Elizabeth dau      4                         Flint, Bistree
Sarah             dau        2                                    "

I can't find out whther it is Bistree, Bispa or anything like it.  The census description sheet for the district clearly says Bistree.

Cheers

Wow Ian,

Thats fantastic thanks.  You wont find them on the 1901 census, Jane Snr had died by that stage and John had remarried to a Susannah and they were living in England, cant remeber where off the top of my head.  I knew the 1891 census showed better family links, so William Hewitt was boarding with his Uncle and His father and Grandfather were visiting at the time, that helps alot.

The 1871 census looks interesting, a big age gap between Robert and the next lot, does this suggest that if we looked at the 1861 census it would show a different mother, It looks as if its two different lots of kids.  Can someone have a look for them on the 1861 census, for John don't worry about Mary as the wife at this stage as she may be a second marriage.  Though I don't want to jump to conclussions.

Now I need to find the death of Jane Hewitt, now thats a needle in a haystack.

Thanks Amy
