Yes he [John Roberts] was, in 1867, as was his father, Jonathan,  and grandfathers, John Roberts and Messach Wright.

Thats right. He was a Baptist Minister of Jerusalem Chapel in Bedwellty and they had a daughter called Hannah before emigrating to the USA in 1872 on the SS City of Montreal. He practiced as a minister in Pennsylvania and was well respected there but after having three further children he died in Shenandoah in 1878. I also have a portrait photo of him.

Above link mentions "The History of Seion Baptist Chapel, Cefn Mawr" by a J. H. Phillips, 1960.

Possibly your John Henry?

Just stated following this again and can't remember if I replied. Yes my great grandfather was from Cefn born in 1867, parents John Roberts , miner, who died while praying on the kitchen floor (87 High St) at age of 30 and Francis Wright who remarried John Jones. One of the photos I have is of the foundation laying of the chapel with John Jones. Others are mostly group photos of the Young Men of Seion.
John and Francis were grandparents of Rev Dyfan Thomas whom you may have known.
