« on: Friday 12 September 08 09:02 BST (UK) »
Hello All

My 2xGreat Grandfather William Middleton was born c.1812 at Broughton Astley (from census) I'd like some help please to find his baptism and hopefully who his parents were and also, possible siblings. William married Ann Roberts in 1834 at Kirkby Mallory.
Many thanks in advance
Cheers

Unfortunately not Diddy. William died Q1 1891 as Ann is a widow living with her 2 unmarried daughters in Nottingham on the 1891 census. (William and Ann had been living in Tollerton, Notts from around 1861)
Perhaps I need to see if anyone has access to Kirkby Mallory PR's where William and Ann married 20th July 1834. Maybe the witnesses names will give a lead.
Many thanks for looking.
Sandra

Hello Mike
Thank you so much for looking up William and Ann's marriage for me!! I really appreciate your help!

I had noted from the IGI Richards adult baptism, and also as the parents of William two possible marriages in Broughton Astley:
Joseph Middleton and L Martha Jacques 23rd April 1810
John Middleton and Mary Toone 4th June 1811

I'd suspect that Joseph and John were brothers, and that their parents were possibly John Middleton and Mary Woodburne who'd married 14th Oct 1776 in Broughton Astley.

I've had a 'feeling' that Joseph and Martha could be the parents of William. But I guess I really need some 'proof'! And also the fact that Richard was baptised as an adult suggests that Joseph and Martha didn't have their children baptised as babies - at least, not in the mainstream church. The IGI has baptism records 1750 to 1836 for Broughton Astley and Richard's is the only one for a Middleton! Which also suggests that the family were resident there at that time. Possibly though, they may have had their children baptised in a neighbouring village...??

I've also noted from census records a few other male Middletons born 1800 - 1825 in Broughton Astley.

Many Thanks for your offer to do more look-ups on the Middletons! I'll look forward to seeing if you come up with anything.

Cheers
Sandra
Interestingly, my Great Grandfather Tom , son of William and Ann wholeheartedly embraced the Closed Brethren religion here in New Zealand in the early 1900's, so possibly he'd not been brought up an Anglican.

Hello Mike

Thanks so much for all that information ! It will be a great help. Today (it's raining again!) I'll have a relook at the census and also the female's families to see what I can come up with. I'll 'go with' Martha and Joseph being William's parents and see if I can find any other possible family connections that could lead to a little more 'proof'.
Thanks again!
Cheers
