EDWARD TROUGHTON - Has anyone access to the 1841-61 censuses for the Kendal area? I am looking for Edward Troughton, a weaver and married to Ann. I think he was born about 1795 in Kendal. Any info gratefully received.
Thanks, Jill.

Hi Jill
I have an 1851 transcript for Kendal (part 2 of 4) and it does list an Edward Troughton but his date of birth would have been c1772 in Kendal so I'm not sure if it's the one you're looking for but here goes;

The entry is:
69 Union Street, Kendal
Folio 287, page 15.
Edward Troughton, H, W, 79, Woollen weaver, WES Kendal
Agnes D. Neal, D, M, 47, WES Kendal
Agnes Neal, G-D, 15, Bobbin Winder & scholar, YKS Barnsley
George Neal, G-S, 10, scholar, WES Kendal
Nancy Neal, G-D, 6, scholar, WES Kendal
Mary A. Webster, G-D, 19, Bobbin Winder, WES Holme
William Troughton, Bro, U, 85, formerly woollen weaver, WES Kendal.

There are 3 or 4 other Troughtons in this index so if you'd like them too, please let me know, ok?
Kind Regards
Juliette

Hi Juliette,

Thanks for that. I'm working backwards from my greatx2 grandmother Sarah Troughton who was living in Union St, Kendal when she married in 1837 - so the Edward you've found may well be her father but I thought I'd found him as born in 1796 - but that could be wrong!Probably is!

For all I know, Union Street, Kendal may have been the only street in town or - as I've found with other branches of my family ancestors - they all seem to have huddled together in the same area!!

I'd be really grateful if you could let me have details of the other Troughtons - when you have time.

Thanks again, Jill.

Thanks Juliette,

I'm grateful for your time. I think the Edward in your first email must be the right one - I have found an IGI for  Agnes Troughton born in 1805 with parents Edward and Ann, same as my Sarah Troughton - and this fits the census. Success!

Thanks again, Jill.

For those of you interested in the Troughton / Trouton/Trowton name I am doing a one name study and have a large amount of data including a number of Troughton lines from the north of England.
If anyone is interested please contact me so that I can put you in contact with other Troughtons in your area and exchange information. This way we all gain by sharing. For more information joyillaustraliabigpond.com to make this email effective remove australia and put @. Best regards Joy

Hi, Just read last post to the string here.  I have a William Troughton b ~ 1800 in Ulverston.  Father is Nicholas, but can't find his baptism.  William ended up in Hensingham, Cumberland.  I'd love to hear from any one who thinks they connect. Regards  Dawn
