Looking for LEZOMEs...
« on: Saturday 29 January 05 16:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I have stumbled over the name Lezome, and wondered if anyone else has heard of this name? Sarah Lezome married John James Guenin in 1793 in Saint Dunstan, Stepney. I have searched and searched but found no-one with this name apart form Sarah. Found the marriage in both IGI and Ancestry's Pallot Marriage Index. Anyone with any ideas? I'm guessing it's of French origin, possible Huguenots, as Guenin is a Huguenot name found in Canterbury and later Bethnal Green.
I would be grateful for any suggestion on this name.
Thank you.
Ninakin.

Hello

Just stumbled on this old post.  Sorry cannot help with connections, but immediately thought Lezome could be an anglicisation of Les Hommes?

Just a thought ...

Regards
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Hmm, yes it's a possibility. Thanks for replying by the way, I'd given up hope!
Lezome must be a misspelling of another surname. I've thought of Lassam, Leason etc, but with Sarah as a first name, it's difficult. Most of the GUENINs in my family tree are silk weavers, at least in the early part of the 19th century, so I'm guessing Sarah LEZOME would be a member of a similar family in the same area. It doesn't have to be a French/Huguenot family at all, maybe the registrar added a windswept and interesting twist to her surname!  :)
I'll keep on searching and who knows, I might be lucky! Thanks again!
