Silkstone/Thurgoland-Crawshaw family
« on: Friday 19 September 08 18:18 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with Joseph Crawshaw born c1821, father Christopher. 1851 census shows birth town Elland but no luck with those parish registers. He was living Thurgoland 1851/61 census. Many thanks.

Hi Wendy - I can't help with Joseph or Christopher, but |I did check  all the BMDs on my Silkstone cd for 1558 to 1784.  There are loads of Crawshaw family on all three, but apart from an odd one at Stainbrough all are from Dodworth, not a single one from Thurgoland up till 1784.  Regards - Jackie

I thought that you had only checked Elland St Mary's.
What about all the other places in and around Elland?

Hi Pauline - I am unsure of other churches within the Elland area. I have just found a Christopher Crawshaw on the non conformist site - baptism in Rochdale which I think is fairly near Elland but no Joseph. Thanks for your reply.

Many thanks for reply Jackie and for checking your Silkstone CD. I have possibly found Christopher Crawshaw for 1795 in Rochdale - chapel but no Joseph still. It's poss they moved from Rochdale to Elland I guess. thanks again, Wendy
