« on: Tuesday 23 September 08 22:27 BST (UK) »
Hoping to find some more census/general information about a William B. Gordon (b. c. 1852 in Arbroath). He married an Eliza Thomson (b. c. 1852 in Montrose) and was a joiner.

Previous thread: Census request - Gordon

Thank you,

Would it not have been better to continue on your old thread to prevent possible duplication?

???

I posted on the Angus board because, thanks to you and Mum44's help, on the last thread I discovered that's where William's roots were. I have mentioned the previous thread (on the Lanarkshire board) to avoid duplication of said census records. :-\

I apologise for any inconvenience.

Hi hume  :)

Long time no see and all that!

Have you got a death for William that would give his parents names?

Apologies, Gadget. :-[ I thought the 1891 census was a mistake (having an approx. birthdate of 1832) but turns out it is actually correct!

William Bury Gordon died 1916 in Partick, Glasgow aged 82. Father was Peter Gordon (joiner) and mother Martha Fisher.

That's odd - so he was 51 in 1881 not 29  :-\

No wonder I couldn't find him on the 1861!!

:-\ Certainly is strange. I'm not sure if it's just Ancestry though. If not, I can understand taking a few years off his age (to match with wife) but over 20? It doesn't seem right.

Now found his birth and 1841 census entry.

I've had a look at the 1881 on SP and he is down as aged 29 on that too. It would be nice to have an image of the original entry to see if it was a poorly written 49 (say) or he did give 29 (his wife's age).

Have you found a marriage for them?
