Update ... edited version of an email.....

Vienna, March 26th, 2017

New at GenTeam:

Dear Researcher and Genealogist,

On my own account:

With today´s online data, approximately 16,2 million entries are now available for the currently 35,500 registered users.

At this point, I would like to thank all individuals, who have furnished GenTeam over the last 7 years with vital information, all those who work on long-term projects, but also all those who work behind the scenes to ensure that GenTeam functions properly and continues to expand.

GenTeam is an European platform through which historians and genealogists, who work independently or as a team on databases, can furnish this data to all researchers. All data at GenTeam is available free of charge. The use of GenTeam also requires no membership fee.

An additional development created parallel to GenTeam is www.GenList.at, a bilingual mailing list which more than 1,700 members.

And now to the Actual update:

1     New: Military Casualty Lists
       Austrian-Hungary World War 1

In the Casualty Lists you will find the wounded, prisoners of war, and the fallen from all member countries of the Habsburg Monarchy. In total, there will be approximately 3 to 3,5 million entries. You will find offices, one-year volunteers, and, naturally, the whole gang with all confessions, this, also Jewish, Muslim and Protestant soldiers.
The following excerpts of a total of over 720 lists are already online on GenTeam now:
1-15, 84, 93, 99, 101, 102, 104, 108, 109, 111, 114, 119, 126, 129, 131, 137-140, 147, 160, 162, 164, 173, 190, 191, 194, 195, 208, 214, 215, 227, 227, 232, 242, 243, 252, 253, 257, 263-265, 268-270, 273, 275-280, 291-293, 312, 325-328, 336, 686.
Approximately additional 250 lists are in progress.

4     Vienna – Baptism Index between 1585 and 1915

Entries from the parishes 02 Sankt Johann Nepomuk, 03 Landstraße, 04 Wieden (Paulaner), 05 Sankt Josef Margareten, 07 Sankt Ulrich, 08 Gebäranstalt (Hospital), 09 Lichtental, 10 Sankt Johann Evangelist were added (i.e 02 = disctrict 2).

You will find a table listing all parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help.

3     Vienna: Index of Catholic deaths

Since the list of deaths in the Vienna Newspaper contains vast gaps (even with consideration of Viennese historic borders, as well as the interesting fact that on average approximately 40% entries of deceased children 1-year and under are missing); therefore, we at GenTeam have begun an index of Catholic burials.

ne entries were added today of the parish of 01 Maria Rotunda (Dominikaner).

You will find a table listing all parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help.

4     Index of Dominion records of Lower Austria
We added indices of the dominion Drosendorf.

5     Register Indices from Lower and Upper Austria, Burgenland, Styria, Tyrol, Bohemia and Salzburg

Registers of the following Roman Catholic parishes were added:

Lower Austria:
Aschbach, Biberbach, Drosendorf, Falkenstein, Hagenbach, Mauerbach, Niedergrünbach, Oberkirchen, Sankt Pölten Dom, Schwarzenbach, Staatz, Wildendürnbach, Wilhelmsburg, Zistersdorf.

Upper Austria:

Burgenland:
Pilgersdorf

Tyrol:
Sankt Jodok am Brenner, Schirm

Salzburg:
Aigen

You will find a complete listing of parishes with updated time frames under Hilfestufe/Help.

6     Dioceses Passau
        approximately 158,000 new entries
Of the now approximately 3,32 million church records from the Dioceses Passau about 440,000 are marriages (now complete), about 1,5 million are baptisms, and the remainder are deaths.

In this database you will find parish, volumes, page numbers, Last Names, First Names, date/year or records, not always profession, as well as address/town. You will find the church registers of the Dioceses Passau at www.matricula-online.eu. You will also find a table listing all parishes with updated time frames and important tips under Hilfe/Info (Help/Information).

Sincerely yours,
Felix Gundacker

If you are looking for place names in Germany (or Prussia), this is the place to be !

http://gov.genealogy.net/search/name and enter the name you are searching for in "Ortsname" (Place name)
You will then see a map showing all occurences of this name, with a list of contexts (parish, town, bishopric, admin-district, etc.) for this name

Click on any link in this list for more details, e.g. where they "belonged" at different times.

It is a german site, so some knowledge of german helps, but it is mainly tables of "facts" (names, places, dates) so you should be able to get the gist of most of it.

And if not, start a new query on RootsChat and ask there for help :)

regards,
Bob

ps. There are also place names from all over the world in this database, but with the emphasis on Europe.
See the coverage-map on this descripion page:  http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/GOV

Here is another Genteam update. I have abbreviated some of the (long) email but there's lots here....

GenTeam is celebrating its tenth anniversary! On January 10, 2010, GenTeam went online with approximately 1.3 million entries. Since then, more than 19 million entries have been added. The database has thus grown to more than 20.4 million records. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this project! The number of registered and active users has also continually increased and has now reached 50,000. They all benefit from free access to all data without having to pay any membership fees.

Gazetteer: Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, South Tyrol: Thanks to the great work of Mag. Ingrid Schuster, approximately 4,500 locations for today’s Slovakia as well as Ruthenia were added to the GenTeam Gazetteer in November 2019. This database now comprises more than 76,000 locations in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, South Tyrol and Slovenia with information on the respective Roman Catholic parish, any previous parishes, the year the registers begin, as well as the respective archive.

Details on this update
1       Military – Austro-Hungarian casualty lists of World War I: Already approximately 1.9 million records online! The casualty lists enumerate the wounded and killed soldiers as well as the prisoners of war of all crown lands of the Habsburg monarchy. In their entirety, these lists will hold approximately 3 to 3.5 million names. They include officers and one-year volunteers as well as subordinated military personnel of all denominations, including Jewish, Muslim and Protestant soldiers.

2        Diocese of Passau: Already 4.4 million records online. The overall number of approximately 4.4 million records from the Diocese of Passau comprises about 440,000 marriages (complete) and about 2.07 million baptisms. The remaining records are burials. This database contains information on the parish, volume, page, last name, first name(s) and date/year. In some cases, the occupation and the address/town are also indicated. You can access the church records of the Diocese of Passau at www.matricula-online.eu. For a list of the available parishes and their respective periods as well as further important information on this database, click the green Help/Info button in the top right corner of the GenTeam website.

3        New: Obituaries of “Neues Wiener Tagblatt Besides the major daily papers from the monarchy (Pester Lloyd, Neue Freie Presse, Wiener Tagblatt), many further newspapers contain obituaries for persons belonging to the middle class. In this update we have added entries for the year 1883 as well as for the period 1914-1918.

4        Vienna – Roman Catholic baptisms: Records have been added for the parishes of 03 Landstrasse, 06 Gumpendorf, 08 Alservorstadt Pfarre, 08 Alservorstadt Gebäranstalt, 15 Reindorf, 16 Neulerchenfeld, 16 Altottakring and 18 Währing. The numbers indicate the respective district of Vienna. For a list of the available parishes and their respective periods as well as further important information on this database, click the green Help/Info button in the top right corner of the GenTeam website.

5        Vienna – Roman Catholic burials: Records have been added for the parishes of 01 St. Stephan and 09 Votivkirche. Catholic burials for the first district of Vienna are thus complete for the period 1784-1938.For a list of the available parishes and their respective periods as well as further important information on this database, click the green Help/Info button in the top right corner of the GenTeam website.

6        Vienna – Municipal marriages (civil marriages) The years 1920-1922 (volumes 16-20) have been added.

7        Indices of Roman Catholic church registers for Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria, Salzburg, and Bohemia - Records have been added for the following Roman Catholic parishes:
Lower Austria - Böheimkirchen, Eibesthal, Ertl, Gerasdorf bei Wien, Hörersdorf, Lichtenau, Maria Dreieichen, Niedernondorf, Sankt Oswald, Sankt Peter in der Au, Sankt Valentin bei Steyr, Siebenhirten, Stockerau, Strengberg, Viehdorf, Winklern, Zeillern
Upper Austria - Ostermiething
Styria - Bad Aussee, Übelbach
Salzburg - Berndorf, Großarl, Lamprechtshausen
Bohemia - Krima/Krimov

We would be particularly pleased if you would also like to contribute to GenTeam by creating a database or providing one you have already finished. If you are interested in joining our team of contributors, or if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I wish you all the best for your research with GenTeam and the new records!
