I've cross-checked on SP all marriages between 1891-1901 anywhere in Scotland for a William Forrester (with wildcards) and then checked for deaths, again anywhere in Scotland, for any Forrester females between 1891-1901 born 1875 +/- 10yrs. The only match for deaths/marriages was the death of a Mary Neilson/Forrester in Larbert Stirlingshire in 1894 who married a William Forrester in the Gorbals Glasgow in 1892.

The problem is that this William shows as a plumber by trade, father Alexander also a plumber and mother Jane Wright.

No other deaths of female Forresters correspond with marriages to William Forresters  ???

Hi Monica,
Even in 1891 Linlithgow William and Jane lived next door to each other, illegitimate Mary(1) is not to be seen. I think when both families moved to Muiravonside and set up next door to each other again, Mary(1) was brought back to stay with William and no one would be any the wiser about her parentage. Perhaps William had a bit of a limp wrist and Mary was his cover? as well as bringing Mary closer to her real parents next door. We can all speculate but it is a strange affair, we agree on that issue.

Duncan

I did find the marriage for the Mary Forrester b. 1890 linlithgow with mother Elizabeth Charleston. When she married, her father's name was blank and mother down as Elizabeth Charleston. Can't easily see her connecting to the William and child Mary we have in Muiravonside in 1901 other than that 1891 entry simply by surname/age.

Can't see this Mary in 1901, though mother Elizabeth may have married and be under a different name?

William married a Margaret Thomas, from Linlithgow it would appear, in 1906 Stirling. He is down as a bachelor. Parents as we have. He died in Dunfermline in 1946, a son reported death.

So, he wasn't married until 1906. Was he the father of baby Mary b. 1890, if he was her birth was illegitimate and again could be down under any surname. If baby Mary was the daughter of Jane Gray, then all the above scenarios would apply  ::)

Chuffed with that  ;D even though the mystery over Baby Mary continues  :'(...

Hi Monica,
Very pleased you have found Marriage and Death of William, it was leading me a merry dance trying to find them :-.[ Glad that's out of the way, and you have probably solved cover up mystery as he was a bachelor at time of marriage, surely proves he was looking after Mary Holden Gray to avoid shame being showered on his sister.

Hi Monica,
Did not want image in body of message, do not know how it happened. Further news re William's Mary 1901, Pam has found a Mary Charleston born 1890, Linlithgow, no father noted on illegitimate birth document, so cat amongst pigeons again.
                                          Regards,
                                                   Dunmac.

P.S. Ed. apology for images shown, I don't know how to alter them.
