No problem.

Don't think I'd have risked it either but I guess she had no choice ... I'd be non too pleased at being deserted so close to the birth on number four!

What a wonderful lady.

I had a trawl through the online BC Vital records but could not find either a marriage entry for John Howard Macfarlane, nor a birth for Thomas Howard Macfarlane.
There are these two births in Greenwood however and I wondered if they fitted in somewhere.
Thomas Hinks Macfarlane
14 April 1902

Charles Barnett Macfarlane
11 October 1903

I wonder if LemonMallie could double check next time she is in a library? (Not possible for me to do it from here in the UK of course :( )

I have found the following on find my past:

There is a record of a Lina Rothe aged 21, travelling with Ernst (or Erush) Rothe, 56, (Farmer) and Hulda Rothe ,45, (all classed as foreigners on the ships records) travelling on the Yainui from Glasgow to New York on 27 November 1899. That would give her a birth year of 1878 - close to that given in the census.

It is the nearest so far but who can say whether or not it is the correct Lina ???

I still have not found mention of her after the 1901 census - where did they go? Nowhere that I can trace them apparently :(

Hello, I believe that you are looking for some of my relatives.  I live in British Columbia, my Father was Charles Barnet Macfarlane and my uncle was Thomas Hinks Macfarlane who married Mary Lamb who I knew as "Auntie May".  I'm not sure how best to connect in to the group as I am relatively new at this.  I've looked on line occasionally but this is the first time I've gotten this far.  They all grew up in Greenwood BC, and my aunt and uncle later moved to Port Hardy and Quatsino Cove.
Lina Roth would have been my grandmother - My mother told me her name was Helena Rothe.
Looking forward to finding out more.  Regards, Patches1
