Hello all.
I'm a beginner at Scottish research. I am giving my cousin, a mother of two, a kick-start into family history. I'm the best person to help her out as I've been doing this thing we all love for about three years now, and I'm fairly familiar with her family.

My cousin was born a Fowlis a few decades back in Exeter. "Exeter?" I hear you say, "What was she doing down there? Fowlis is a Scottish name". Yes that's true it is, but her Grandfather Daniel Fowlis was from good ol' Scotland. He moved down south and married a Devonshire lady. He was born March 7, about 1930, most likely in Edinburgh (but don't hold me to that!!). He died 1984 in Exmouth, Devon. He was born one of five children to George Fowlis and his wife Marcella, formerly Duncan (both born in Scotland circa 1900). The other children were: George Duncan, Helen McQuaid, Jean Duncan and Peter Duncan Fowlis. Each child, including Daniel Fowlis was given their mother's maiden surname as a middle name with the exception of Helen (McQuaid was the Midwife's surname present at Helen's birth).

I would appreciate any help or advice available as Scotland seems quite alien to me (family history-wise, anyways!!), but not too much as I would like to leave my cousin some research of her own to do someday!!

hi Ryan, my name is Lorna Beth Thurston ( nee Fowlis), my dad was peter Duncan Fowlis, l have two sisters, the oldest is Lynden Ruth Taylor ( nee Fowlis ), my dads sister Helen is her god mother, my youngest sister is Morag (sammie) Calton ( nee Fowlis ), l believe she is on Daniels daughter fb, my father Peter Fowlis died in 1987.
