Moseley Hall Grammar School, Cheadle
« on: Monday 29 September 08 22:01 BST (UK) »
I attended Moseley Hall from 1965-66. Does anyone have any information on the history of the school, or pictures?

Also, does anyone know the names of any of the teachers who were there at that time. Unfortunately I cannot remember any of their names. I do, however, remember one who thought nothing of throwing the blackboard duster across the room in your direction if you weren't paying attention (such as trying to read the registrations of aircraft on final approach to Ringway Airport!).

Any help, however small, greatly appreciated.

I googled  "Moseley Hall"  Cheadle School and got nearly 400 hits.  I didn't go through them all but there were pictures, pupils' names etc.

Maybe worth a try - unless you have already tried it :)

I too was at Moseley Hall, but a few years after you from around 1970 - 1977.  My brother was there before me, so I have some idea of who would have been there during your time.

I think when you were there, Mr Armishaw, "the beak" was headmaster (he retired after about my first year).

Also perhaps Dicky Dutton, Weary Wilson and some others whose names escape me at the moment.

There was a super website www.mhgs.org or similar a few years back, but that has sadly now closed down.

I'll rack my brains and see if I can remember any others

A little bit of thinking/research leads me to say some other names you might recall are:

Dixon
Gough
Seed
Bescoby
Basher Forbes
John Hawkesford
Fielding
Newcombe

There was also an RE teacher with the nickname of Creeper who may have been there at your time.

If you go to the internet archive www.archive.org you will see a window referring to "waybackmachine".  Type the address http://mhgs.org.uk in. This will let you pull up some of the old pages from that website I mentioned - there's loads of info on there but you may have to be patient.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks, Manatlarge,

I managed to get the old mhgs site and had a good look round.

Some of the staff names ring a bell. If I remember right, Basher Forbes was the Olympic Gold Medallist at blackboard Duster Throwing!!!

Thanks again,

I was also at Moseley Hall Grammar School (1963-1970) and attended the 2003 reunion around which the mhgs.org.uk was built.
Unfortunately it looks like that is now defunct - no volunteers to maintain it, I think.
As a result, I've decided this year to try to get as much information as I can back together and maintain it.

Any contributions of contenet are very welcome!

I ran the Airspotting Society in the 1960s.  We did coach trips to Heathrow but went to more obscure places such as Doncaster, White Waltham, etc

Does anyone have pictures from those days?

Was googling and came across this message board.

I was at Moseley Hall from 1965 to 73 and my brother followed 3 years later. The RE teacher previously mentioned was Mr Martin who rumour had it had played in goal for Portsmouth.

I also recall a Mr Richards who taught physics and a Mr Dunning who was a rather eccentric history teacher.

Happy days!!
