John HORGAN Harbourmaster at Swansea?
« on: Monday 31 January 05 00:39 GMT (UK) »
John HORGAN brn c 1862  Pembroke Wales.

Family member "thinks" he went on to be Harbourmaster at Swansea after his retirement  from Royal Navy, where he held rank of Petty Officer.

I have him in 1881 census serving in the Navy as "boy 1st class" as  so that much is true.

Does anyone know where I could find records  for the Swansea Harbour Board?

Thanks Liznz

You could try www.nmm.ac.uk

They have indexes etc, but you tend to have to know what you are looking for.

There are also hostels that retired sailors often livedin, after leaving the Navy.

The only research I have done is for the north.

And not Military, but I do know the Maritime Museum keeps most of the records.

Hope this helps.

Dear Rowdy Jnr,
Thanks for the  www.nmm.ac.uk website in your reply.
I will follow it up, and see if I can make some head way.
