Maher Family - Tipperary
« on: Thursday 02 October 08 21:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find some information regarding an Edmond Ned)  Maher born roughly 1884.  His Father was James Maher and his Mother was Mary Butler.  He moved to Scotland -not sure when- and married in Glasgow in 1914  to Winifred O'Neill.  According to my records his father was dead when Edmond marrried.  Icannot find which townland or parish he came from in Tipperary, or whether he had any brothers or sisters.  any information would be great. Thank You
MaAdams, Preston Ireland,
Preston Flannigan Cunningham Craigneuk, Motherwell
Murphy Hutchinston Glasgow
Salmon Paisley
Maher Tipperary, Ireland . Maryhill Glasgow.

Edmond Maher born 21 Apr.1870 Co. Tipperary, son of James Maher & Mary Butler listed in IGI- could this be your Edmond Maher? IGI (www.familysearch.org) also lists other children of James and Mary- do parent search to find details.

Welcome to Rootschat scotstim75. The original poster - mags c- has been online recently but never responded to the information I posted earlier so I can't confirm this is the same person you are looking for.
If you go to the LS site www.familysearch.org- click on Advanced Search and put in only father's name and mother's name then click search button you'll see the information I had found.
Since then several new sources (free) have also come online including 1901 and 1911 census, civil registration index, other records on LDS Pilot site: Irish births- shows parents' names; Irish marriages- shows partner's name- scroll down page for Ireland-

Hi Scotstim75,

Apologies for the brief response earlier, I was in a hurry at the time. Also, welcome to RootsChat.

Generally I use the BetaSearch for IGI, its a newer version than the link referred to earlier. Using that I found:

Ellen 1864
Thomas 1867
Edmond 1870
Johanna 1872
Michael 1874
Cornelius 1877
James 1880

Addresses include The Grove, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Tipperary and Ireland in various combinations.

Here's the link: http://fsbeta.familysearch.org/#form=advanced-records

Just key in Maher for the Last Name, Ireland for the Location and Father and Mother's names as you have them.

Good luck with your search.

Dara.

Well that was a wee bit of a shock....could you fill me in please.  BTW Ned was my husbands grandfather.  As far as we know he never let on that he had left a family/child in Ireland.
