Hi this is the antiquesman here in Southport, England

www.theantiquesman.com

It seems the worlds junk ends up in my shop.

This may interest a Maher.

I have just come accross in unusual circumstances some documents.

First is a demob parchment for Peter (Pete) Thomas Maher dated 1875 after serving 10 years in the 49th Reg

Peter was born 1840 in the parish of Parish of Mallinans in the county of Tipperary
2nd document
it would seem that the family emigrated to Boston or New York USA on the White Star Line "Republic" from Queenstown 3rd Sept 1879

I have the booking letter from the White Star line

I also have prayer books (Roman Catholic) owned by a  family member who did not emergrate dated 1875 and 1895. Possibly owned by the grandchild of Peter

If you have some interest my mobile  phone number in England
07714 32 22 52

My ggggrandfather was James Maher born 1786 north of Nenah Tipperary.
He was the son of Michael.  He married Catherine Hanley and had 5 children James 1827, Edward 1821, Catherine 1834, Thomas 1825, and Ellen 1836.  The family left Ireland in the late 1840's and moved to Ontario, Canada.  The children married local Tipperary folks.  James wed Ellen Cain (do William Cain and Hannah Flannery), and Catherine wed Roger Carroll.  Looking for any one with ties back to Tipperary.

Do you know what part of the Nenagh area James came from as Maher/Meagher are common names in that locality?  Have you any other family information that could help?

Scrub that last post about Cornelius wife.  That was his nephew (also cornelius) and his wife.
Yes we are on about the same family.  I have recently discovered more information with the help of other rootchatters.  Corneulius (Neds brother) wife was Maria Burke in 1909 in Glasgow.

Hi There, I am looking for information on a James Maher approx. 1880. He lived in Norris Arm North in Newfoundland, Canada and married Cecilia Melvin from Fogo Island, Newfoundland, who was born in 1877. We know nothing of James Maher's background at all so we are guessing that he came from Ireland. If anyone has any information on a James Maher that travelled to Newfoundland, Canada sometime between 1880 and 1909, I would love to hear from you!

Hi there, with regards to James Maher, the only information I have is that he was born on 4/11/1880 to James Maher and Mary Butler.  As far as I know he emigrated to either Canada or USA.  Don't know if this is any help.

Hi mags c, thank you for the response. My James Maher married Cecelia Melvin in 1905 in Gambo Newfoundland. Do you have information on Mahers that settled in Newfoundland?
