Hi,

there were 6 comboy households in Cork and 7 in roscommon in the Griffiths valuation so I would try there first.

Check my site for more county based links.

This is a different link but gives the same information re Comboy surname.

http://tinyurl.com/pzvto8l
Shows the townlands in Roscommon and Cork where the surname is found in Griffiths Valuation (land tax) records. Published Year 1857 for Roscommon and 1852 for Cork so entries possibly collected 2-3 years earlier.

Hi Joe

The Griffiths valuation only has heads of household, no ages. YOu'd have to search through parish records for births and marriages.

To broaden your search,  could I suggest you investigate the name CoNboy,  as it appears to be more common in Ireland than your submitted name.

For Catherine Conboy, RootsIreland has a number of baptisms in that timeframe, eg. 1828 and 1830 Co. Leitrim, 1826 and 1831 Co. Roscommon and 1832 Co. Galway.

You need to tie down more detail on her, eg. parish/townland (from census or other records) and father's name (from marriage record).

I should have concluded this earlier.
Her marriage certificate from Manchester Cathedral 23 Feb 1851 confirms for me that she (aged 20 a spinster) married William Hirst Brorn (Aged 22 a bachelor) warehouseman were both living at 13 Clopton Street Stulme.
Her father was John a farmer and William's a bookkeeper.
Subsequent censuses record her birth simply as Ireland.
