Hi There,
Elphinstone cemetry is down the side of the village school.  It is a small path with limited parking at the top.  Make sure that you can your car.... it is narrow.  Walk down about 500 yards and it is on the right hand side.  When I looked a few weeks ago a lot of the stones had been laid flat, most with the inscriptions down. You also need to ook at the bushes as there are headstones in them.

Happy hunting, take care,
regards,
Lynda

Lynda

I will be back in Tranent in a couple of months, Now I know where it is ,I can check it out.
Wonder if we can persuade anyone to get the cemetery back in order.  There is a historical soc., in Tranent, perhaps they might be interested.
Thanks for the information

I am interested to know if the Church Cemetery of Tranent is indexed or if there is a listing. I am researching the Dow, Douglas and Boggie Families and believe that some of the family are buried at the cemetery.

Hi Dingaling
Had a wee look at my MI book for Tranent Church. There is 1 stone for a Jane Dow who was married to an Andrew Pearson. There is also 1 for a Hugh Douglas, born 1831.
Cannot see anything for Boggie.
If these are any good to you I can give you a full transcription as per book

Hi Fiona,

Thank you for the information on the Dow/Pearson inquiry...I would love to have further details on the Headstone.  Is there anything for a John Allan died 1912 or his wife Elizabeth Allan died 1911.  Regards Dingaling
