WW 1 Photo CD request
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 07:52 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the CD which listed soldiers who died in WW1 and had matching photos. I have two great uncles who died in WW1 and who I have found in CWGC site but the family have no photos of these uncles. There probably was but as the family split up and emigrated, these seem to have been lost.  I saw the CD advertised some time ago in the Family Tree magazine.
I am looking for Arthur Thomas McEwen, Gunner 45944 of the Royal Field Artillery died 2 May 1917 age 25 and Henry George McEwen Private 681981 London Regiment died 22 August 1918 age 34. Parents were Samuel and Mary Ann McEwen of Dalston London.

Thanks

I looked up the CWGC - but they don't give an email address which is akward - would suggest perhaps you write (or ring if you are nearby) and ask where you would be able to get photos.   Presumably they would have photos of all personell?

Your posting is not very clear, are you looking for photos of the individuals? If so you will not get them from CWGC.
If you want a photo of their graves try
http:/www.britishwargraves.org.uk
You may be lucky there.

It was photos of individuals. I am unsure as to who issued the CD now as it is a while ago since I saw the advt. CWGC has photos of the cemeteries and I have seen those.. Unless anyone else comes up with the CD, I will pop back to the library and try and look up back issues of Family Tree and see if I can find the name. THat may help.

Sorry, saw that on the site
http://www.army.mod.uk/contacts/divisions/comm.htm
It comes up in the search area just above the Commonwealth War Graves Commision heading , just open the search and it is the first one there.

I have emailed CWGC to see if they know and if they can be of any help.

Thanks for the referrals

I think the CD you may be referring to is: Soldiers Died in the Great War.  It only gives personal details, no photographs.  I have never heard of such a thing with photos.
Men of the 56th (1st London) and 46th (North Midland) Divisions in 1916

You may be right - perhaps I thought there were photos in that the advert was misleading. I did contact the War Graves and they told me the same thing. I will just have to be content with the War Graves details which I have and have provided much more information than the family knew before.
