Elusive marriage - did they bother??
« on: Monday 13 October 08 22:26 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to trace the marriage (if there was one) of Richard Wild(e), b. 1853 Kidderminster and Caroline Freeman b. 1857 Lye

Caroline's maiden name is given as Freeman on the birth certificates of 3 of their children that I know of.

Their first child Sarah Ann is born in about 1878, in Stourbridge according to the 1881 census. 1891 just says Worcestershire. Their second child Alice was born in Wordsley, Staffs (according to 1881) and baptised in Kingswinford so it looks like they moved around a bit!

Thanks

D

Yes, he's Richard on all the other censuses ... his father's name was Thomas so perhaps he was a bit confused by the enumerator's questions!?

The Marriage could have been at Wordsley Holy Trinity or Lye, they are not on the IGI.  HTH from linell.

Thanks Linell - doesn't explain why they're not on FreeBMD or West Midlands BMD though.

I think I shall conclude that they got lost on the way to the church...
