I too was at Winwick today looking at 18th century graves. 'Two breadths' appears on quite a lot of these stones. One said 'of her two breadths. At first I thought it referred to a place but my husband who is local to Winwick said not. We have concluded it was a double grave.  single grave took 3 so a double breadth would take 6.

You'll will probally find its the plot size, two bodies side by side. ;D

Well its a thought ???

Yes, in some parts of the country, particularly where there is a high water table, graves are dug side by side rather than on top of each other; Boston in Lincolnshire being an example, where during the winter months interred coffins have been known to float!!
