Hi hume24,
 I am on the SP site at the moment and have just found another two children with Malcolm and Maria on the 1901 census. Malcolm Jr age 13 and Agnes age 9. How would you go about finding out records for at sea births? I also found Donald's birth cert he was born on 21/06/1872 in Denny. Malcolm was a lithographic printer at that time before joining the police force. Also how did you get the census records for Margaret Fairweather? I have tried umpteen times on SP and no matter what combinations i put in to the search details it always comes back with no results.

Here she is (with parents) in 1901. Your trouble could come from her being listed as Maggie.

Hi again,

Isabella Yuill is shown as b. Lesmahagow in 1901 so I would start looking around that area for births. Have you found Isabella and Robert Fairweather's marriage certificate? It will give her and his parents' names, making it easier to find a birth/marriage for her parents.

Hi Hume & Daval,
It has been quite some time since our last contact. I have subscribed to Ancestry.co but unfortunately they do not have access to Scottish B.M.D's so I still have not been able to find Archibald McMillan's birth. I have been on the Fairweather family tree and they have Maggie & Donald but no children. I found a census address record of Archibald & Margaret McMillan as Rosebank cottages Bathville Armadale from Blackburn history library. Can you suggest any other ways I could find more information?

What information are you trying to find? Are you just looking for the details of Archibald McMillan's birth or his ancestors? If the latter, the census results I posted before should help to get you back further using a combination of SP and the IGI (for births, marriages) and Ancestry (census).

If it's Archibald's birth, I think you may need to just try every certificate for the name for that time. However, you will need to take into consideration several variations in spelling: McMullan, Mullan, Millan.

thanks for prompt reply. I have all the details of Archibald's ancestors, its really his details I'm looking for as to where he went after leaving Armadale. I will keep trying for births thanks anyway
