The only other Sissy Davies that might be considered is in Ffestiniog, Merionethshire - aged 9 in 1891:

RG12/4646 F 17 P 27

It's possible but not as likely as the Shrewsbury one.

This looks like the strongest candidtate so far:

1901:

RG13/2546 F 115 13

Celia F Davies, aged 17, b. Oswestry.  Living in the Boot Hotel*, Whittington with parents William and Mary. William is listed as 'Hotel Keeper'. 

Whittington is about the same distance from Oswestry to the NE as Maesbury is to the SE - possibly a distance 8 km between the two places.

I was at the Boot two years ago!

Old family tale that William Archie was named after a Police man killed on duty. I've found Police Constable William Davies who lived in Montgomeryshire and killed on duty in 1903.
If you have access Gadget to Mont info please could you see if there is a connex?

I'll check up but I think the Whittington one looks the most promising. Her father was William.

How old was the policemen, when he died?

Do you have any other info on her - marriage, death, etc.

I'm having problems linking this policeman to your Sissy (alternative spellings).

In 1901, the full entry reads:

Police Station, Montgomery, Montgomeryshire

William Davies, 41, police constable, b. Salop, Oswestry
Mary, 37, b. Montgomeryshire, Welshpool
William Henry, 13
Margaret Ellis, 11
Walter Bernard, 7
Bertie Hugh, 3

All children b. Caersws, Montgomeryshire

Caersws amd Montgomery are a distance from Maesbury (see Google Maps  or Streetmap, for e.g)


There is a birth registration in Oswestry for the Florence M Davies that you mentioned as the elder sister of William Archie:

Florence May Davies, Sept q, 1899, Oswestry, vol 6a page 685

So far, I've not found her on the 1901 census as Florence or Florrie.

This is all very tricky but without a marriage or death for Cissie/Sissy/ etc. - which would give her age  (and if marriage then her father)  - it's very difficult to make much more progress

I've just looked at the 1891 for William Davies in Caersws that you mentioned in your posting:

RG12/4591 F 79 P 13

(It was Caersws with Civil Parish-  Llanwnog; Regist. District - Newtown)

Here it gives William's place of birth as Morton, Shropshire. Morton is not very far from Maesbury.  If I remember correctly, it's just about a mile away to the SW. Maybe this William was related in some way to Cissy - hard to tell without tracing him back further. Maybe you could start by doing  a search for him on the 1881 which is free on www.familysearch.org.
