RE:- Marriage Look UP
« on: Friday 31 October 08 17:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help, I have been trying for a few years now to locate a Marriage, have looked everywhere I can think off, but can't find anything.

Owen Morris to Mary McDonald or MacDonald in about 1865 - 1871.

Owen is from Tullow, Carlow, according to 1881 Census, his first child that we are aware off is born in Jarrow in 1870, but Jarrow, Scotland, England and Wales Marriages throw nothing up for Owen getting married in those places, so am now wondering if he got married in Ireland before coming to England.

On one Census his wife Mary is born York, but am now wondering if this could be Cork.

Marys surname originally came from my Great Grandmother, and reading through this, it maybe that her surname was'nt Macdonald, but something else entirley.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone can help, would be much appreciated, as this is the only brick wall I now have.
Thanks
Debbie

Debbie,

The 1881 census shows Owen Morris to have been born in Truro, which of course is in Cornwall, not Ireland. It may simply have been the Enumerator's mistake.

Have you traced him in any other censuses to compare his birthplace?

Regarding his wife - if you obtain a copy of a birth certificate for any of the children, it will give you the maiden name of Mary as you have doubts about her surname. If it does turn out to be different, it may lead to finding the marriage...

Hi

The enumrator did make a mistake on the 1881 census, as we know that Owen was from Ireland, we know that if you say Tullow in a thick Irish Accent it could sound like Truro.

Have got all the census info which states Ireland, have lots of info on them from different sources, its just the marriage I can't locate.

I had thought of getting a birth cert fot one of the children and this is my next step.

Thanks for the queries

Debbie
