This is the 1861 census entry coming up in Poplar. I would think Richard is off in the sea:

Isabella Kerrison 33, ship carpenter's wife
Samuel Kerrison 11, b. Poplar
Isabella Kerrison 10, b. Limehouse
Hannah Kerrison 5, b. Limehouse -(this must be Hannah McGregor I would imagine)
Emma Kerrison 2, b. Poplar
Samuel Y Kerrison 17 (aged 47 on original image), brother (in Law), widower, ship carpenter, b. Clay Norfolk

Added: Sorry, forgot to include. Isabella mother is showing as born in Bristol, Gloucestershire.

Jane Armstrong Kerrison is showing as married in her 1881 entry, so husband Samuel is still alive at this point. Did son Samuel show father as deceased at the time of his marriage?

Now why oh why, does Isabella shows as a widow in 1871, Poplar I wonder:

Isabella Kerrison 42, widow, b. Bristol
Isabella Kerrison 20, b. Limehouse
Hannah Kerrison 15, b. Limehouse
William Kerrison 5, b. Bromley

Can't easily see Isabella in 1881, but there is this possible death showing:

1st Qrt 1888   Isabella Kerrison, 59, Stepney, vol. 1c pg. 363

I have the death cert of jane kerrison, 18 jul 1881 6 dee st Bromley. Ha! shows Samuel George Kerrison widower of deceased as informer!
That's why Samuel George (son) was living with Grandfather in 1891!

(son) Samuel George married Margaret Grisley 1904 Shows father Samuel george as deceased.
I am trying to tie in the Kerrison Family of Poplar, East London with those of Norfolk.

Samuel was certainly elusive in his later years. Can't see him on any census apart from the early ones we have for him with his family. No death showing either post 1881 on Freebmd (maybe something on the full index?).

Thankyou,  with the help you have given me today, have now got somewhere with the Norfolk Tie in!  For some reason, most US sites tie Kerrison with Cornwall! With the certificates I now have retrieved from my old box I can safely say that Samuel Kerrison died between 1888 and 1904, so will try to find him on mariners lists.

I wouldn't rely too much on what the US sites say  ::) For example of the 576 Kerrisons in the 1861 census, 381show a Norfolk birth place - no Cornwall birth place entries showing for that year...!

Ha I know!  My younger Brother paid for a scroll with a family crest!  He wasn't too happy when I told him it was not real!
