I notice you have Hulbert in your tree.   I too have a number of Hulberts (with various different spellings) in my tree also.   THey start with Joseph Hurlbatt born about 1695 at Lyneham.   My line goes through his son, James, baptised 29 May 1715 at Clack.   Any connection?

Hi Mick,
Thanks for that, I cant be sure that the spelling for hillier is correct, but I understand spelling by some officials back then was a little bit suspect, like the name of christian, would it have been christine I wonder.
cheers, Alan

Hi Dave,
The Hulbert's that I have originate from Cirencester and lived at no. 18 Sheep street, Cirencester, I have a family book of church services and in the front cover is written;  To our mother on her birthday in 1866 from her affectionate children, Ellen & Edward  feb-12-1866,   on another page is written the name, Sarah Hulbert,  Cirencester,  Glos.
From there it appears Ellen becomes Hellen and is living at Tochenham as a Governess and at the same house is Jane Waters, a niece it must of been there she met my GGGrandfather and married him on aug-7-1875 in Swindon.
At a later census Jane Waters is at 18 Sheep street with her Grandparents, William and Sarah Hulbert.   I do realize that census returns only show where people were on that date and not necessarily the correct address.
Cheers, Alan.

Dave,
Correction on the Hulberts, I put to many G's down it should be great grandfather.   I don't know if they are the same Hulberts as yours but there were many aunts and uncles and siblings around Cirencester.

I don't know about the Hulburts as I only have them in Lyneham in the 18th century.

Be prepared as I am about to throw a large spanner with these baptisms in Compton Bassett which also occur in the IGI...................

13 May 1804 Rebecca Hillier dau of William and Christian
27 May 1804 Rebecca Hillier dau of John and Ann

Only one marriage in Compton Bassett
8 Jul 1826 James Williams, otp, lab and Rebecca Hillier, sp, otp, witnesses George White and ?? Taylor

Marriage at Lyneham
11 Nov 1826 William Ingram, otp and Rebecca Hillier, otp, banns, witnesses John Reeves and James Brother

Fathers' names were not recorded in either marriage record, as was the custom of the time, so it was not possible to identify the correct Rebecca Hillier.

There were these burials in Lyneham
25 Mar 1840 John Ingram, Preston in Lyneham, 79
30 Jun 1845 William Hillier, Fosbury Farm (Tidcombe), 63
