Clifton Parish Baptism Register
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 18:41 GMT (UK) »
Is there anybody out there who is able to look up a baptism at Clifton, that took place in the early 1820s for William Mounsey?

Here hoping!

They are not that close sadly though anything is possible.  Clifton records are on the IGI.  If you find an exact date on www.familysearch.org then someone may have access to the actual register or you can order it from your local LDS centre and look at it there.  Can you quote a census record for him?   Always useful to know how you know he was born there at that time.

Thanks wozzle but as silgen says Patterdale looks a bit away from Clifton.

The 1851 census clearly states birth place as Clifton, West'd (30)
and the 1861 states Clifton, Cumb'd (41). The 1841 has 'Y' (20)

William died 1865 in Carlisle.

William's father's occupation was a sailor, a little surprising as Clifton is nowhere near the sea!

There is a William Mounsey of the Royal Navy who died in 1831 of Brampton who I'm hoping is connected.

Two points:

Patterdale is only about 10-12 miles from Clifton, so I think the 1825 baptism that Wozzle found may well be yours.

Also, I have ancestors from Clifton - though a bit earlier than yours - and they were Quakers. I believe there was a strong Quaker tradition in the area. It might be totally irrelevant - but worth a mention.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.
