Gravestone - Please make it legible
« on: Monday 17 November 08 15:52 GMT (UK) »
With many apologies to Prue and her thread about how to take gravestone photographs.  I'm sorry we didn't see that until we got home so this photo is not very good, although the stone itself was actually very legible.

The wording is:

IN MEMORY OF
ANN Daughter of
JOHN + MARY DAY
And Wife of
CHARLES COCKETT
who died June 1 1844
       Aged 28

Can anyone do anything?

Thanks
Lizzie

ps.  To above.  There was also some wording across the bottom relating to the baby daughter of Ann and Charles, but I forgot to make a note of the words and I just can't make them out on the photo my OH took just of the bottom of the stone.  I'll put a request on the Lincolnshire board to see if anyone can visit the graveyard and just write down the words.  Then I'll be able to post an even worse photograph for someone to make legible.  ::) ::)

I tried and tried, and could make no improvement in legibility. I suspect that the visual information simply isn't on the photo. Hopefully I'm wrong and the experts will prove it.

Hi Mike

Not sure what you mean by the visual information isn't on the photo.  My OH took a close up, and the words are legible on that, but it isn't the full gravestone.

I'll attach the close up photo.

Thank you very much Emjaybee, that's great.  Next time I'll make sure my OH follows Prue's rules.  I have another one for you if you don't mind.  The wording is:

Joseph Hobson
of (it might be Ingbirchworth)
who died October 10 1876
age 63 years

A loving husband and a father kind
a faithful friend, a pure and upright mind
with ripen'd powers untouched by time's decay
death's sudden stroke resistless snatched away

Also of Elizabeth his wife
who died December 9 1894
in her 77th year

Many thanks again for your help Emjaybee, or anyone else who is out there.

Lizzie

This would be impossible without your script. Please any future gravestones must be 300dpi. at 72dpi I would not have been able to make out much without your notes.

Ta very much, as you see the script was there for copying, not like the old days.
