Hi Jack

As your interest is Tullamore I thought I would ask if you can help me with some research?
I am searching for the Potter family from Tullamore. Sarah Potter born 1811 married a gentleman named Smart and had a son called Thomas Born 1836 in Ireland . Mr Smart may have died as the next time I locate Sarah (in 1841) she is living with her son and twin brothers John and Henry (born 1821 in Tullamore) in Lincolnshire. Thomas Smart died in 1842 and Sarah married into my Shickell family. I suspect that Sarah and her brothers probably left Ireland at the time of the famine.

Best wishes
Felix

Hi
Thank you very much for that information; so maybe some Potters remained in Tullamore and this family are their descendants. This is purely conjecture but may lead elsewhere, did the record that you found have ages listed?

Best wishes

Sorry, no, but it is taken from the Offaly 1901 census, so if you can get access to that, then it would shorten you search time.

Hello Jack,

Would you have any record of these two individuals, both supposedly born in Tullamore:

James Nugent, b. c1882

Christina Lawlor, b. c1884

It appears that they wed in Liverpool in 1913.

there's a good match for the birth of a James Nugent around the right time on the Civil Index :

 Name: James Nugent
 Registration district: Tullamore
 Record type: Birth
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1883
 Volume: 3 / Page: 555

It may be worth ordering a cert from the GRO to see if he fits the details you have.

That's great, Shane. Thanks very much.

Has the GRO moved from Lombard Street to the IFSC is it?

I live in Raheny, so either way, it's no great inconvenience.

the GRO research room is now in the Irish Life centre, on Abbey St, near the Lotto HQ and VHI  Their webpage is at : www.groireland.ie

you can search the Civil Index on Familysearch at : Irish Civil Index
