Can anyone assist with information on the Billane Family, I know that they lived in the High Street, before coming to the UK in the 60's. Patrick Billane stayed in Birr, however came to the UK on a visit and sadly passed away.
If anyone has any knowledge can they contact me.

Cheers
My grandmothers name was Elizabeth (Eliza) Billane she came from Tipperary on the border of Offaly.By the way Birr was once known as Parsonstown. You can now access the 1901 and 1911 census on line under national archives .ie

Hi,

I am trying to trace my ancestors with the surname Billane who was born in Birr in about 1829. His name is Thomas Billane, and on his marriage and death certificates (in Australia) it states the father and mother as Jeremiah Billane and Mary (nee Quinless). I cannot locate anyone called Jeremiah or Mary Quinless and I cannot locate Thomas' birth certificate.
The names listed on the census with Patrick Billane are names that have appeared throughout our family tree. Could patrick be Thomas' brother???
Have you come across a Jeremiah or Mary in your travels?

Thomas's birth is well before the start of civil registration in Ireland , so there will be no birth cert for him. To search for a baptism you need to know the family religion so you can check what parish records might be available for the area.

Is there a chance that ages were changed (up to 10 years difference?) back in the 1800s when convicted of a criminal offence. Thomas Billane was born around 1829, but convict records to Australia show birth around 1819. Could they or he have made himself 10 years older/younger?
Any luck on your trip?
Found out Thomas Billane had a brother John. Any further connection you may have found with Patrick and Thomas would be great.
