Can you help find the Collier's in 1881 pls
« on: Thursday 27 November 08 14:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello all  ;D

I've tried to find the following in 1881 but am having problems, so I thought some of you may be able to help me.

In 1891, I've found Hezekiah Lambert, married to Ann and living at

62 Denbigh Street,Hanley Stoke Upon Trent, Staffs.
Hezekiah is 39 yrs of age, occ: Iron worker.  The head of household is John Collier, 26 yrs of age, occ: Coal Mine Lab. His 18 yrs old brother James is with him, as well as a neice elizabeth age 15 yrs.  Hezekiah Lambert is shown as step father to John Collier.

Hezekiah married Ann Collier, marriage registered Dec qtr 1882 at Stoke on Trent.

In 1881 there is a James in the

age 7 yrs, with a brother John age 9 yrs, AND their Father William age 39 yrs. James & his brother John are both shown as b Brockmore Staffs, the same as is shown on the 1891 census. Though the age and place of birth are right for James, the age is wrong for John.

There is a family shown in 1881 at
Quote
8 Chestnut St, Broughton.
The wife is shown as Sarah Ann, and y.o.b is right.

Could a fresh pair of eyes have a look for me and let me know what they think  :-\

Many thanks .. Lyn  :)

I've just found Hezekiah & Ann in 1881, living at

65 Bridge St, Stoke Upon Trent
with a daughter Charlotte age 12 yrs. Charlotte must be from Ann's first marriage, or Hezekiah was a Dad at 12 yrs of age  ::)

Hi I have the same Collier's in my family tree.
My maiden name was Collier.
My dad was John Collier, his dad was also John Collier, born Brockmore
and his dad was William Collier.

Hopefully we connect.

The age of the john collier on the 1881 would be correct.
I have found the family in 1861 Brockmoor and William b. 1834 Hereford and Ann born 1833 Worcs have Sarah A 6 b. Kingswinford and Hannah age 3 born kingswinfrod. It follows then that john was the one born March 1862 which would make him 9/10 in 1881 census.
Hannah may have died in 1865.
If you view the original of the 1891 you will see that the age is 20 but the faint 'mark through' makes it look like 26.
William,Ann Sarah A,William H and Charlotte found in Brockmoor 1871
William H died age 13 in 1877.

Hi Essex Girl ... regards your search for the Collier family, I thought I had replied to you but probably didnt do it right. Been off the internet a long time and my daughter has helped me to get back here. i am part of the Collier family you are searching for. Happy to help if you want to get in touch I have far too much to put on here as much as I would love to. John Collier who was in the Workhouse in 1881 with his brother James and his father William was my grandad. I would love to know what connection you have to the Collier family, i am thrilled to bits to know someone else is researching my family.
