1841 - TIVETSHALL ST MARGARET
« on: Sunday 06 February 05 09:57 GMT (UK) »
I'd appreciate a look-up for:
George Pawsey and his wife Charlotte.
George was perhaps a Farmer, born Norton, Suffolk.
Charlotte was also born in Norton, Suffolk.
On later Censuses their ages were never particularly accurate but George had been born 1804.
I'm hoping there might be some children listed on the 1841 but have a feeling they were childless! It might be worth checking all of Tivetshall St Margaret for any other Pawsey's!
Many, many thanks.
Fliss  :)

Bad news I'm afraid Fliss,

couldn't find any Pawsey in St Margaret, Tivetshall although some of the entries were totally unreadable.

I tried St Mary's, Tivetshall but no joy. I even tried Norton but still nothing.

Sorry

All the best Angela.

God bless your eye sight Brian. Have just been back to check using your reference but still couldn't make them out.
the only thing I could see was the age of Charlotte and the letter C for her name.  But wouldn't have known it was them. Who made your copy of the census or do you have it on fiche. I think I need a new copy

All the best Angela.

Well I don't know that my eyesight is that good :o  I used to use the 1841 Census discs from a company 'upt'North'  which was on 5 CD's, but I was not satisfied with them as I had been into the Archive Centre in Norwich who, being newly opened, had a very good set of microfilms - although one has to say there were still difficulties with some faint pencil entries.  The difference in the two was phenomenal - the faint copies in the CD's were unreadable.  Therefore when Archive CD Books bought out a set made on their new scanners which was on NINE CD's I thought hard about whether I wanted to spend more money on them.  The reason there are nine CD's is because they are taken at a much higher resolution and therefore are much clearer and you can really zoom in to those doubtful ones, on the original set of CD's I had some pages looked empty, they are still faint on the new ones but they are mostly legible - and if all else fails I look at them at night with no light on in the room!!!  I can recommend them - if I am allowed to do so - and now get all Census CD's from them, but you pays your money and you takes your choice.  Hope that helps.

Thanks Brian,

I have quite a few discs from Archive and think their copies are wonderful. My Norfolk one is Stepping Stones and thought it was just the state of the actual census rather than the reproduction.

I think I am  going to save up (again) and get the archive copy. Thanks for the useful advice.

All the best Angela.

If I can just break up all this chat - Thank You for looking up the Pawsey entry!
It was really appreciated and clarifies the fact I thought them to be childless.

I know what you mean about some copies of censuses being better quality than others - frustrating. Another thing - worth considering - I decided to join www. ancestry.com for a while and made use of their UK Census site - years 1871 through to 1901. Marvellous! Worth every penny! As I have a huge database of family names,I was able to fill in gaps in my research material from the comfort of my own armchair! Do consider joining it for a quarter if your research is extensive.

Thank you again!
