Hello again Firthview,

I was looking at the posts I missed and saw this one of yours.
I've had a look at the Scottish 1861 for your Oliver McAleese, and found a possible, though it's transcribed as "McLish"

It's at Bankhead, West Calder, Scotland,

Oliver McLish, 40,  Ironstone miner, born Ireland,
Elizabeth,   40                                  born Ireland,
Daniel         19      ironstone miner   born Ireland,
Margaret     11                                 b West Calder, Edinburghshire
John              9                                           ditto
Joseph
Norris, London 1800's
Bird, Gt Yarmouth 1800's
Smowton, Yarmouth/Norwich 1770
Dublack, Yarmouth
Binks, Essex
Wilcock, Lancashire
Kettlewell, Yorkshire

Hi,

whoops, sorry, I posted it before I'd finished!

Joseph,    6,          born West Calder, Edinburghshire,
James       1,                     ditto

There's quite a gap between Daniel's birth and the next child, Margaret, which could account for the time in between him re-marrying.

Hope it's right, and hope you are well,

Best wishes,
Yorkslass

Hi Yorklass   how are you,and thanks for looking,i have them from when they landed in Scotland{ West Calder} and up till the present time, its just a couple of miles from where i used to live. Its before they came over to Scotland from Ireland that they cant be found. But i know everyone searching Ireland has not much hope. And the John McLish at 9 years that you found had a daughter Euphemia that married a Sherlock. Good to hear from you again  regards  Firthview

Hi,

We're fine thanks - I found another reference to who I think must be the people you're looking for, but there's a personal e-mail address on it, so I'd better send you an e-mail.

It's from quite a long time ago, but this chap seems to know who Oliver's parents were, and perhaps he's found out more since then!

Hi firthview, i too am a decendant of Oliver McAleese/McLeish and his son John McLeish (1853).  my great grandfather was John's son Joe McLeish born in 1878..

Like you I am also trying to find information on Oliver's family while in Ireland.  I have dug up Oliver's death certificate from 1878 when he died at 57 years old.  I could not make out the father's name on the certificate so I contacted the website to have them transcribe it for me.  They confirmed that Oliver's father's name was listed as Ewan McLeish.

I have had no luck digging up anything on him, but I thought I would pass it along to you.  maybe you will have better luck than I have.

take care,
Ian
