Electoral Roll - Tonypandy - David Howells
« on: Thursday 04 December 08 16:00 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help.
I found what I believe to be my great-grandfather, David Howells, in 1901 census living at 230 Brithweunydd Road, Tonypandy with wife and daughter, both Mary.  I know he had died before 1907 and found a likely death in 1903 but GRO did not issue certificate because I gave the above as last known address and death certificate showed a different address.

Can anyone check whether there was still a David Howells at above address after 1903, in which case I have the wrong person, or did he move.

Many thanks.

Hi,
I can't help with the electoral roll, but I looked @ Trealaw cemetery and are these any of yours.

David HOWELL died 1907 aged 71 years

David Rowland HOWELL died 1905 aged 28

David John HOWELLS died 1908 aged 28

There are loads of other HOWELLS and HOWELL but you have not put any years on your post apart from around 1901 to 1907.

Hope this may help you

Vicky.

Thanks for reply Vicky

I don't think any of these are mine.  The David Howells I think is my great grandfather appears on the 1901 census aged 61.  I know he died before 1907 when my grandmother married, so the death I found in 1903, aged 64, seemed likely but if it is him he must have moved between 1901 and 1903.  The GRO did confim he was a miner, which is right, but would not give me an address so I may have to pay up again and hope.

I am not sure whether he would be buried in Trealaw.  My grandmother was buried there in 1914 but he is not in the same plot.  I know they were 'chapel' so it is possible he may have been buried in a chapel cemetery somewhere.

If you have time could you please check to see if there is any sign of Mary Howells snr.  She was listed in 1901 as aged 56 but I have no idea when she died.

Thanks again.

Hi
There is a Mary HOWELLS in Trealaw Plot J994 died 1915 aged 70.
the others in the plot are Thomas died 1881 aged 17.
and David died 1913 aged 73.
do these matching anything in your tree.

Hi Vicky

Thanks for the information.  It's back to the drawing board for me.

This is definitely the family I had traced in the census returns, all the ages and dates tie up, but it means it cannot be my grandmother's family as her marriage certificate dated 1907 shows her father as deceased and this one was obviously still alive and kicking.

I thought the Howells side would be easier to trace than the Davies side but it is proving very difficult, this is the second wild goose chase I have been on.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I don't have any answers for you, just questions.  My Howells also comes from Tonypandy Wales.  I haven't gotten any where in my search.  Have you come across a Iestyn David Hawells, born around 1910?

Thanks
Sarah
