Crail in 1913
« on: Saturday 20 December 08 12:35 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching the Sime family who lived at 5 Temple Crescent in Crail. James Sime was a butcher abd the family consisted of James and Catherine, 3 daughters and John Sime. John emigrared to Canada in 1913. However, I cannot find Temple Crescent on today's map! Did it actually exist?
Can anyone tell me where James Sime had his shop- he was obviously fairly successful as the family had a servant girl listed on the 1891 census.
any help appreciated.

The only butcher's I know of in Crail is J.B. Penman in the High Street.

https://food.list.co.uk/place/29596-jb-penman/

In the 1891 census James Sime the butcher and family were living in the High Street.

Hello,

Temple Crescent does indeed exist.   Penman butchers is in Crail but nothing to do with Simes. If you Google Simes the butcher in Anstruther ( next village to Crail) you may find its the same family.

Sorry I should have said I live in one of the houses built by James Sime not John.   There are a number of Simes in the East Neuk . Hope this helps with your search.
