Cedric Overton Shackleton
« on: Monday 05 January 09 17:40 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for children of  Dr Cedric Overton Shackleton born 1891 Newcastle upon Tyne. He lived in East Bank, South Newington Bloxham until 1950's and I know his wife was called Vera and that his son William Alwick was killed in Holland in 1945. Perhaps it is abit too recent but if someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful
Happy New Year All
Nicola

you will need to establish his wife's name by locating his marriage - you might be lucky and get it in FreeBMD - then search the full indexes* of Births for surname Shacklton and mothers maiden name that you hopefully found - it looks like you can stick to one District given what you say about Bloxham .... (Bloxham, Oxon? )

* Use www.findmypast.com or Ancestry.co.uk for Full Index trawling ...

Long shot - but FreeBMD post 1984 database has a death of a Vera Shackleton in Dec 1988, age 96 in Surrey Northern district - so she would be of an age to be a possible candidate for Cedric's widow .
Cant remember if 1988 death certs give enough detail to establish if it is the right one.

LOL, thats what you're trying to find .... each spouse gets their own index record, and after 1911, they cross reference - so find Cedrics and it will have a spouse surname - eg BLOGGS - look up Vera Bloggs and it should xref back to Shackleton - with the same District, Vol and Page numbers - then you know you have it

Which years did you check? We can always do a few each, if you record which you have done

where are you looking ?

If its the full index, organised by the Years's Quarters, it might be a long trawl  ....

it helps if you know the date of birth of the first child - start there and work back, not foolproof, but better than starting in say 1911 and working forward for the marriage .

The Quarters are indexed by first and last name on the page - which can get tangled if there are handwritten additions ....
