A photo please - I have several now TY
« on: Wednesday 07 January 09 22:13 GMT (UK) »
When the weather warms up a bit I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to visit St Cuthbert's Graveyard for me and take a couple of photos for me.   If there are additional inscriptions please include them.
The grave is, allegedly, red granite shape unknown but with a panel, in Division 7 (?) and allegedly has the inscription:-
Gilbert Robertson, second son of H. Robertson, D.D., Kiltearn, died 10 Sep 1839, aged 64.
I hope the Division 7 is a reference to the section of the graveyard, otherwise it is a huge ask to hope somebody to search the entire yard. Thank you ever so much.

I am all charged up but looking at:

http://www.scotsfind.org./databases_free/St.Cuthbert%27s.pdf

your Gilbert Robertson is not listed.     What was the source of your information?

I have now noticed that these pages only go to Division V.

Sorry All,
One would think I should know better by now,
- Data source: Midlothian (Edinburgh), Scotland: Parish and Probate Records.
Midlothian: Edinburgh - Monumental Inscriptions in St Cuthbert's Churchyard, 1916
Division 7.
  Division 7.
  On Base.
County: Midlothia
Country: Scotland
Gilbert Robertson, second son of H. Robertson, D.D. Kiltearn, died 10 Sep 1839, aged 64

Midlothian: Edinburgh - Monumental Inscriptions in St Cuthbert's Churchyard, 1916

  Division 7.
  Right (Red Granite) Panel.

Country: Scotland
Gilbert Robertson, second son of H. Robertson, D.D. Kiltearn, died 10 Sep 1839, aged 64.

Hope this isn't a copyright breech.

I have search for his death records many times without success, so who knows where they may actually be but the father's details are correct on the grave.  I'm more than delighted he could afford a monument of any sort, makes it a little easier to find 'proof of death after life'.

Another slight delay :- Mortonhall who have maps etc of the cemeteries under their charge are unable to identify Division 7.    However there are other ways.

I have a little bit more info, if someone could visit the archives in Edinburgh and look up CH2/718/114  - Proclamation and Marriage Register 1803 - 1842.   This may reveal some more information in regard to Gilbert Robertson.

A slight detour, does anyone know if there are passenger lists available for movement between Scotland / England and destination ports in the Colonial outreaches of the West Indies and dependencies of the northern coastline of South America?   Berbice, Saint George(town) Jamaica, Trinidad, Demmerra, Essequibo?  Time frame I'm hoping for is 1770 - 1840.

Hi Abygail

I'm not sure if it will have exactly what you are after but http://www.immigrantships.net/ has a fairly comprehensive collection of passenger lists etc and links to other useful sites. It can take quite a bit of digging to find what you are after!
Galloway,   Landers,   Lindsay,  Gillespie,  Irvine
Erskine,   McAdam,  Hawthorn
Robertson,   Duncan,   Edmonstone,    Black
Anderson,  Nicholson,  Crombie,  MacDonald
Arch, Herbert, Charlesworth, Chapman
