Hi Gerry.

Have you heard any more news about the Catholic death records? They are taking their time to get them digitised. Still waiting for the marriage records...wonder which of them will come first.

Mary

I am researching John O"Donnell aged 26 who was killed in the mine disaster at Blantyre mine in 1877.  You have his name on your list.  There was another John O"Donnell aged 23 and one site said they were from the same address but I think that was a mistake.
As I am just starting on this research and live in Perth Western Australia any info would be appreciated.

regards

HI Kenmure,

I would normally PM you the copy of the stone inscription but you need to post another couple of messages first before the site allows that..........
Here is the O Donnell stone inscription -
Erected by Mary Fullen in memory of her beloved husband John O Donnell, died 5th July 1876. Aged 40 years. And her two sons James, died 12th ???? 1880. Aged 5 years. Francis, died 26th Feb 1864. Aged ? Years. The above named Mary Fullen, died 26th Sept 1877.  Aged 44 years. er son John O Donnell, Died 15th July 1900. Aged 44 years.

If this does turn out to be your relations let me know and I will get a copy of the photograph to you

Thanks for that gerryfarrell.  They don' t seem to be the right relations.
Our John O"Donnell died in a mine accident 22nd October 1877 aged 26 and was buried on 1st Nov. at Dalbeith (their spelling) cemetery.  There were 2 John O"Donnell's killed in the accident at the Blantyre mine along with over 200 men and boys. The other John was aged 23 years and not married. Our John was married to Ann Hunter who remarried and had 3 sons one of which was my grandfather.

Gerry this is brilliant, what a great project to do. Thankyou for doing it as I know I personally have rellies buried there.

I have not got them together yet but would you be able to see if a headstone for a Henry Quinn still stands please? He died October 11 1952 aged 81, but his wife Ellen O'brien died in 1944. Also buried with them I believe to be my gt uncle Henry McCartney, who died in Feb 1946.

Once I get my Quinn/McCartney/O'Brien line truly sorted out I'd love to see if any of my lot are here too.

Thanks again for this brilliant piece of work. We really are indebted to you.

Cheers,

Matt :)
