Florence Alice Louisa Stanbridge

Hi

Can't find anything about this lady if she was born in OZ or a migrant.

What I know is that she was the mother of Florence Mabel Owens born Brisbane 8/5/1876.  She gives her father's name as John Owens.  Florence Owens married John Edwin Galletly in Victoria in 1901 and appeared to live the rest of her life in and around Melbourne where she had nine children.

But I can find nothing of her mother, no birth, marriage or immigration record.  I did find a death in 1937 in NSW of a Florence Alice Louisa Smith but that's all.

Hope someone can shed some light on this for me please.

The birth  of Florence Mabel was registered in both names of
Owens and Stanbridge so indicating the parents were not marriaded  I  could not  find any other children born in Qld  to Florence Stanbridge.

I just got back home from the PROV, first time I have been since they moved from Laverton years ago.  I can do it now I have a bit of time being retired and now on my own. 

Funnily Jenn I also found the death for 1901, in Prahran I assume.  Could not find a marriage in Vic, maybe she adopted the name Owens.

That birth is a possible and sort of fits with her age given that informants for death certs aren't always accurate.

Thomas Standbridge 30 Carpenter, with wife Ellen Eliza 30 and children Frederick Henry 8, Pauline Eugenie 5, Alice Florence 3,  servant Ann Davis 15.

Melbourne Cemetery
Florence A L Owen buried on 05/02/1901 aged 45 years in the Church of England Area, compartment EE, grave no. 601A.
Also in this grave is Ellen B Excell buried on 19/02/1914 aged 35 years.

Certainly the birth found by Cando in Tewkesbury and this family in th e1861 census seem to be the same person, Cheltenham being 'no but a cock stride away' from Tewkesbury.

The age also fits with the death found in Melbourne but are they the same gilrl, not sure as the names are ordered differently.  At this stage she seems to have blown in on the wind. 

Strange name Excell though, another trip to the library I think.

a quick check on the victorian index shows that the parents of Ellen B(eatrice) Exell are:
John Owens and Florence Stanbridge. rego 1034. So is this Florence's sister!!!

Will do some checking in the Victorian indexes.
