Hi Deb

I'm afraid I can't help with this one as both Hollington and Dallington are in East Sussex, so you will need someone who is going to Lewes. If you start a thread I'm sure aid will come your way :D

Jan ;)

See you already have a thread - someone will be going one day.

Jan

If you come across any Smiths I would be grateful.
Looking to find out middle names (all help is needed when it comes to Smiths!) of children born to Harry and Emma (nee Hellyer) Smith
1. Edith Agnes?  born c1879 Keymer
2. Florence Beatrice? born c1880 Keymer
3. Harry Jesse? born c1885 Fishbourne (is that W. Sussex?)
4. Lydia Isobel? born c1890 Petersfield (think that is Hampshire)
5. Edwin Thomas? born c1894    Ditto
6. Fred  ? born c1899  Langrick  (can't find out where that is)
7. Lily Frances  born c1900  Billinghurst

Many thanks.

Polly  :)

Hi Polly

I can check Keymer, Fishbourne and Billinghurst for you.

Yes Petersfield is in Hants. Re Langrick - there is a Langrish near Petersfield which could be it.

Jan ;)

Hi Janan

Just another quickie from me

I believe Crawley is West Sussex?  Would you mind verifying a marriage from the original that I have got from the Sussex Marriage Index.  It is at Crawley dated 4 Nov 1827 between Elizabeth Drewit and William Terry.

Now the bit I want verifying is that she is a widow and he is a widower.  I query this because they are both 20 - 22 years old.  Tragic if it is true and would then confirm that they are mine.

Thank you

Kerry

OK Kerry I'll check that for you - very sad if it is true.

Hi - and thank you for such a prompt and friendly response to my very first posting!

I don't know my Sussex geography too well, so I will list the three Sussex records that I am seeking and hope you will weed out what's not from the 'west'.

Brighton - St Nicholas - Baptism 9.2.1812.  George BOOCOCK - father: John Headon Boocock. A cordwainer, serving in the Militia.  Mother: Mary (Rennard) Boocock.

Findon - St John the Baptist - Marriage 20.8.1811.  Francis BERRINGTON (huntsman/musician/coach bugler)
to Jane STEVENS

Hurstpierpoint  -  Baptism c 1790. Jane STEVENS.  Parents unknown

Once located, is it possible to obtain photocopies of the entries, or would I have to order the films through my local LDS library, in order to make copies here?  So far, I have travelled to York and obtained lots of copies from the films at the Borthwick, covering my northern ancestors.  I really like to have copies of the original entries
as that confirms, in the best possible way, that my facts are right.  I also like seeing the originals - the writing, the name of the officiating minister, etc.

Once again, thanks for your offer of help
angelhaus :)

Hi Kerry,

In the meantime, I had a look at St John the Baptist in Crawley Marriage Transcript and sure enough this entry is shown:
Marriage 04/11/1827 by Banns;
Groom: William TERRY  Condition: W
Bride:     Elizabeth DREWITT   Condition: W
Witness 1:   John Inkpen
Witness 2:   Elizabeth Inkpen

No previous marriage for either found in this transcript which covers at least the previous 50 years.
Hope this helps too

Thank you very much Penny, that'll save Janan a job  ;D

If Willam and Elizabeth are who I think they are, neither actually came from Crawley so what they were doing there is a mystery.  I think both previous marriages are likely to be in Kent as William was from Westerham and if I have the right Elizabeth she was from Edenbridge.

Thanks for your help.

Kerry :)
