All Saints Parish Church, Birmingham c1859
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 17:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please.
I'm searching for the location All Saints Parish Church in Birmingham c1859.
The marriage certificate shows Matthew Clark married Eliza Lunt on 2 August 1859 in this church.
This couple lived in the Ladywood area of Birmingham - I've searched via Google but cannot find an All Saints Church in the Ladywood area at that time.
Perhaps the church was bombed in WW2 or disappeared through rebuilding.
Any help would be most gratefully received.
Thank you
Mudlark

Hi Mudlark,

All Saints Church was in Brookfields , Birmingham.
Brookfields being  very near to Hockley and Ladywood.

The Church was demolished in 1973 .

Search Ted Rudge's Website - Winson Green to Brookfields-
Click on Brookfields , then Churches.
There is a photo of the Church.

If you are looking for ladywood area of Birmingham try
Mac Joseph website- www.oldladywood.co.uk

Thank you so much for all this information - it will be a great help.
I will shortly check out Ted Rudge's website and also Mac Joseph's - they both sounds like great links to the Ladywood area.

All the best
Chris

Hi Bo,

Is it possible that the photograph of All Saints Church, Hockley in the first website below (hibbitt/photos), might be a shot of the far end of the same (All Saints) Church shown in the photograph in the Ted Rudge website??

http://www.hibbitt.org.uk/photos/photos_allsaintschurch.html

Birmingham City Council website Archives and Heritage Service show an All Saints Church, Hockley at the top of this list (link below).
Hockley (Google Maps) appears to be just West of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter - this is the area I'm researching.

If you could confirm any of this I would be most gratefully.

Many thanks

Mudlark
Not sure if you have had an answer yet but they are one in the same church - yje photos show dufferent aspects.

All Saints was also the name for the local asylum until the 1970's.

I am most likely in the wrong place, but seeing that you are talking about churches l will just ask this question---

Looking on the marriage certificate of my gtgtgrandfather Reubon Bodfish and Sarah Holloway on December 25 1874, l see the church mentioned as the Parish Church of st Matthews or st Matthies, birmingham, in the county of Warwick. It is said that they eloped as he at least came from Todmarton, in Oxfordshireshire, and Sarah gave her age as 18, but its thought she was only 16. If anyone knows anything about the church l would love to hear from them.  thanks pam
