Essex, All
« on: Wednesday 14 January 09 23:14 GMT (UK) »
Firstly I'm definitely talking about the surname and not the county, although the family has lived in Essex for 300 years!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who is interested in the Essex family.  I have researched my branch back to 1700 and have initially chosen to identify all descendants of a Thomas Essex born around 1715 in I believe Colchester, Essex.  So far I have identified around 550 descendants.

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who believes they are related to my Thomas Essex or may have information on exactly when and where he was born.  Even the services of genealogists have proved unable to identify exactly when and where he was born.

I have been researching the ESSEX surname for 4 years and have links to Rothwell, Northampton and London

Currently have my 4th gr Grandfather born 1769 Rothwell, Northamptonshire, I have some history of him and would love to go back further. I have a sunday school record that states he was  baptised at harvey Lane in Leister by William Carey. Although I havn't found any baptism's yet.

Peter,

Its great to get a reply at last to the message I posted nearly 2 years ago and to hear that someone else is interested in the Essex surname.  Are you an Essex yourself?

I'm afraid I haven't traced any connection of my Essex family to Rothwell or Northampton but a good number of my family have lived in London in the East End.  I also believe that my ggggg grandfather Thomas Essex was born in London and then moved to Colchester but so far, despite access to the London Metropilitan Archives, I've been unable to find his birth/baptism.  What is your families connection to London?

My research has shown that there are a large number of Essexes in Warwickshire but I've so far been unable to establish a link.

Any help appreciated.

Chris

HI All.

In case any one  comes along interested in the Rothwell Essex's.

Gravestone inscriptions at the Non-conformist chapel.

"In affectionate remembrance of Morris Essex, who departed
this life January 13th 1876 in the 83rd year of his age.
Also Mary Ann wife of Morris Essex, who departed this life,
August 6th, 1854, aged 63 years.

Sandy,

Thanks for your help.  None of the tomestones you have found are related to members of my known family but perhaps they will be related to Peter's.

I havn't found a link yet.  Which church are the inscriptions from?

My ancester James Essex attended college street baptist chapel, Northampton from Nov 1798. He was born Rothwell 1769, but baptized in Harvey Lane Chapel, Leicester by William Carey
