Teynham Parish Registers
« on: Monday 19 January 09 14:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am hopeful of locating some entries from the Teynham Parish Registers and wondering if anyone may be able to help me please?

I am seeking a marriage between Jesse Jarrett (father William) & Mildred Anderson (father Thomas) in 1840 at Teynham.

Also, burials for both Jesse in 1878 and Mildred Jarrett in 1873, at Teynham.

If anyone can help, I'd be pleased to hear from you.  Thank you very much indeed.

regards
Carol

 Carol:)
I suggest subject to further confirmation from Yourself  .Amelia and Mildred are seperate persons .

The 1873 death is for Mildred Jarrett-         Oct Qtr 1873 Milton 2A 439  Age 56.

There is a death for Amelia Jarrett which could fit the bill   Sept Qtr 1862 Medway 2A 209.

We can discount the other Amelia Jarrett that is shown dying 1885 as she would only have been
          11   yrs old in 1840 .

I will check the Teynham PR,s for the Marriage and Jesse's burial Tommorrow for you Carol. And also see if I can find Mildreds or Amelias or Both.

                                                                  Regards Rog :D ;D

Absolutely fantastic Rog, thank you.

In the meantime I will look and see if I can find an Amelia (presumably married to a Jesse Jarrett) in the census returns.

Thanks for your assistance, it is very much appreciated.

regards
Carol

Thank you Carole for this information.

The scenario is confusing.  If you or anyone can add anything to try and resolve, it would be extremely helpful.

Jesse Jarrett (b. circa 1816 at Tonge) married to Mildred (b. circa 1817 Teynham), present together at Green St., Teynham in 1841 with son Thomas aged 9 months [therefore born circa 1840].

This family continued to live in Kent through to the 1870s with added children.

1841 present at Teynham.
1851 present at Bapchild.
1861 present at Bapchild.
1871 present at Sittingbourne.

Their issue were:

Thomas born 1840 (IGI bap in 1845 no parents named)
Frances born 1843 (IGI bap in 1843 Teynham to Jesse & Amelia)
Emma born 1846 (IGI bap 1846 at Tonge to Jesse & Amelia)
Jesse born 1852
Eliza born 1855 (IGI bap at Bapchild 1855, to Jesse & Mildred)

As each of these children were clearly in the household of Jesse & Mildred Jarrett throughout the decades, I have concluded that the marriage between Jesse Jarrett and Amelia Anderson in 1840 was correct and that Amelia and Mildred were one and the same person.

So ...... with a baptism of Mildred Anderson at Teynham in 1817, unless I can trace a baptism of an Amelia Anderson OR a marriage between Jesse Jarrett and Mildred circa 1840, it would seem evident that Mildred and Amelia were indeed one and the same.

I too have checked all the census decades and found no Jesse Jarrett and Amelia combination anywhere in Kent.

Jesse Jarrett died Milton district Jn 1878
Mildred Jarrett died Milton district Dec 1874
But no Amelia Jarrett death that fits anywhere.

If anyone can solve this riddle, and find "Amelia" Anderson who supposedly married Jesse Jarrett, I would be delighted to hear more.

Thanks again
Carol

Hi Carol ,
              Popped into Library this Morn.
Unable to access Teynham at mo so looked for Tonge (or Tong in old spelling.)
Tonge Parish Registers

There are no surviving PR.s for Tong (old Spelling in use at that era). However there are incomplete Bishops Transcripts.
Checking through them  I found
                   Christenings for:-
Thomas        Son of William and Mary Jarrett      Jan 2 1814
Jesse        Son of William and Mary Jarrett     Oct 29 1815
Mary        Dau of William and Mary Jarrett     May 11 1817
Caroline       Dau of Mary and William Jarrett     April 28 1822
I had a really close look but could not find any more christenings as I thought there should have been another between Mary and Caroline.

Looking for the Marriage of William and Mary I found  .

Marriage between:-          William Jarrett   (Widower) & Mary Barrett (Spinster ) 15 Aug 1813
Witnesses    Thomas Parker & Richard Waghorn.

All data here sourced from viewing Micro Films of documents at County Library.

In the mean time I now think that Amelia is probable a paper person born of a transcription error between Pr,s and GRO records .
Have you sent for the Marriage cert
 Marriage Jan Qtr 1840 Faversham 5 215           Jesse Jarrett - AMELIA(Mildred ) Anderson
That will at least give you parents and Church they were married in.
We will sort this out in the end :)
                                                                       Regards Rog.
