I have not found an entry in the 1861 census for William Iles aged 5 years.

None in the variants either......

The Find My Past marriage reference for ALICE POW is actually CONNOR as opposed to Conner.

         ALICE POW to PERCY CONNOR at Melksham 1925 Dec 5a  250.

Hi all,

In 1861 William (5 yrs) is recorded as William STONE.

Yes, Florence married Jim Nairn and Alice married Percy Connor and I have a sneaking suspicion that somewhere in my notes it mentions that they or a daughter came to Australia and lived in Sydney.    I seem to recall an uncle saying he had visited one of his Dad's relatives in Sydney who was called Alice.

Thanks 'tawyn' for finding the death of a Lydia Stone.  I hadn't checked FREEBMD for a while so might consider buying the cert. to see if it is her.

The following information is an exact transcription of the information.  The 'word' Do actually means the same as the symbol for ditto ".

William Stone, Head, Mar, 57, Dyer, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
Elizabeth Stone, Wife, Do, 65, -, Bath, Walcot.
William Stone, Son, Do, 24, French Polisher, Bath, Widcombe.
William Stone, G Do, Unm, 5, Scholar, Do Do.

Have you found any factual evidence yet that your George was actually called William Stone before he changed his surname to Eyles?

Hmm no wonder I'm having problems
 - findmypast looks like it only has 2 pages with that Piece & Folio number
 - can't find them in Genes Reunited or ancestry either
 - and nothing for that piece at a last ditch freecen search

I'm assuming that they are in Bath Somerset given what I found in findmypast.

No solid evidence - haven't been to aunt's to read the "cousins" letters yet. Not that they will prove anything probably.
The only reason I made the connection is someone on Genes Reunited has George William Iles, Lydia Iles & William Stone in their tree, but I can't see if they have George William as the son or not. But all birthdates & places match up.
