John Stacey c 1868
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 14:34 GMT (UK) »
My Great Grandfather John Stacey born in Ramsey c 1868 appears in the 1911, 1901 and 1891 Census and I also have his 1889 marriage certificate which names his father as another John Stacey (deceased) who was a shepherd.
I cannot find anything of him in the 1881 Census, but the 1871 Census states that there was a John Stacey aged 4 living as a Pauper in the St John Workhouse.
There is a John Stacey c 1830 (possibly his father) recorded in the 1861 Census, married to Harriet c 1841 and possibly this John died in 1868 which would be a good reason for the son to end up in the workhouse .
Can anyone help me join up the dots please ?

No I haven't discounted him, probably because It never occured to me that it could be him. Another lead to follow methinks.

One of the many thousands.
Just an update to the above thread. Nanny Jan was correct and the John Stacey living in Preston was indeed my G Grandfather. Although when his Mother Lydia got together with Richard Garner is still a mystery.
