Search for Kavanagh/Meaney Family c1800
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 23:02 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for the connections of my Great Great Grandparents. They were Patrick KAVANAGH and Mary Honora MEANEY. They married in Coolquill, Parish of Ballingarry, Co Tipperary Sth, on the 3 Feb 1821. Mary was from Coolquill according to the records but Patrick's address was blank, so his origins are unknown.
They had 7 children :- Allicia b. 15Jan1822, James b. 26Sep1831, Mary b.  31Mar1834, Patrick b. 12Mar1837, Thomas b. 22Mar1840 (my Great Grandfather), John b. 8Oct1843 and Ellen b. 14Apr1846. All are in the Church Register in Ballingarry as being resident in Coolquill at birth/baptism.
I know that Thomas and Patrick moved to New Zealand, Thomas 1860, Patrick ?, but the rest of the family or their origins is a mystery.
I am hoping SKS out there may be able to assist.
Regards, Terry.

Thanks Seanmac for the info. As I live in Australia could you please advise the actual location of the addresses listed and is the 1901 mentioned at the beginning the actual date of the attached info? Please advise. Regards, Terry.

1901 is the year of this census and locations could possibily be got on a street map, and I don't have one of there.

A street map of Carrick on Suir is on google http://www.rootschat.com/links/05ha/ - some of the names may have changed but for example I do see

John Street, North & South Quay, New street...

edit : a search for Coolquill showes a small townland about 35km North West of Carrick on Suir, between Callan and Thurles. It is in the registration  district of Callan.

Hi Shane and Seanmac, Thanks for responding to my query. The Townland of Coolquill, what there is of it now, is situated on the road from Killenaule to Ballingarry. It is from the Parish of Ballingarry where I have obtained records of my ancestors. I passed through Coolquill last year when visiting the area and the only visible remains of the once Townland is an Athletics Hall on the roadside bearing the name "Coolquill Athletics Club". It would seem that I have little chance of making any connections as I don't have enough information as to ancestors of GGGrandparents. :(
Thanks for your assistance.
Regards, Terry.
