took down the info on Mary Clayton. Will try to follow any lines that pertain to husband George..... which appears to be a possible 3 children that would be half sisters/brothers to my ancestor Ellen Eliza Clayton.

Further to your info on children of George Clayton and Mary Tidman. I found a Agnes Clayton who appears on the 1871 census you sent me as 6 yrs old.

LDS site lists a Agnes Maud Mary Clayton, daughter of George Clayton and wife Mary, born 15 Oct 1864, dies 27 Nov 1864 in Chatham, Kent.

So, everything fits BUT can it be a typo? She can't die in 1864 and be on the 1871 census?

Hi Ron,

Looking closer at the record you found on the IGI (a member-submitted record by the way), 27 November is shown as the date of her christening, not her death.

Hi Ron..........look again.

The igi doesn't have Agnes dying in Nov, it's her christening.

Thanks for the clarification. That means this is a child of George Clayton and half-sister of Ellen Eliza!

I also found an Elizabeth Ann Amelia Clayton, born Medway, Sep Qtr 1862 which fits info from 1871 census.

Also I have info which seems correct over previous info. I found George Hart Clayton marries Mary Priest, Dec Qtr 1864 in Medway. The second name confirms it's the same George that married Elizabeth Jackson in 1845. This negates the thought the Mary on the census was Mary Ann Tidman.

Slowly but surely this is getting resolved. Still have to find daughter Rosa.

I have found the following on the LDS site:

Elizabeth Ann Amelia Clayton daughter of George and Mary, born 12 Jul 1862, christened 2 Oct 1862. That confirms two children as George's. Still no luck with Rosa as a possible half-sister. However, based on birth info, both children were born before George's marriage to mary in 1864!

There is also a Mary Ann Priest born 12 oct 1838 in Chatham Kent which I suspect is the one who married George. Her parents are listed as Wm John and Elizabeth Priest.

Thanks again for your assistance

You know Ron, I'm really not sure why you have decided that Mary's name was Tidman  ???

Concerning Rose, there aren't many birth registrations in 1860 for Rosa's in the Medway registration district.

This could be the one:
Rose Anne Bertram Clayton
Jun 1860 Medway 2a 350

Otherwise, bearing in mind she was Rosa B in 1861, I wouldn't completely discount this one:

Dec 1860 Rosa Barber Medway 2a 315

Tati:

I found the register for George Hart Clayton marrying Elizabeth Jackson, and although I "thought" George had married Mary Ann Tidman (the dates fit re his leaving his first wife and marrying a Mary and this marriage was 1860), I have since discovered that George Hart Clayton married Mary Ann Priest in Dec Qtr 1864. Given the same middle name I don't think there's any question, it was Priest not Tidman as his second marriage.......

Mary Ann Priest's parents were Wm John and Elizabeth Priest.

There is also a Mary Ann Priest born 12 oct 1838 in Chatham Kent which I suspect is the one who married George. Her parents are listed as Wm John and Elizabeth Priest.

I don't think that is the Mary you're looking for.  Mary Clayton (nee Priest) consistently says on all census returns that she was born in Scarborough circa 1833.

I think this is her in 1841, living in Scarborough.
