LOY, GOLLOGLY & FIDGEON
« on: Thursday 12 February 09 16:01 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Loy family from Forkhill, Armagh (Lower Creggan parish). My 4 x ggrandfather was Patrick Loy. His son Thomas Loy possibly married Mary Gollogly in 1846 in Armagh. They had eight children, Michael, Bridget, Margaret, George, Patrick, John, Thomas and Peter. Thomas emigrated to Middlesbrough, England sometime after 1864. Some of his sons emigrated to England between 1871-1881 including my ggg grandfather Peter Loy who married Mary Fidgeon (who family was also Irish, possibly from Co Monaghan). His brother Patrick Loy emigrated to Pennsylvania USA in 1878. There may also be a link with Scotland as some American cousins have a photo of one of the Loys in a very scottish looking uniform.
Does any have anything that matches this at all?

Lots of LOY and GOLLOGLY records for County of Armagh at  www.emeraldancestors.com

especially of interest to you should be ninety-six 1821 census records
also 68 marriages , 24 births, and 10 deaths for the surname GOLLOGLY.

The current UK INFODISK lists only 2 for LOYE, no LOY  in Armagh and numerous LOY
in Down, Antrim & Tyrone.

The LOYE in Armagh are as follows [see below]

Mike.

Many thanks everyone for all your help! Hothing concrete yet but then
I am not sure quite how it all fits together but Francis looks like a real possibility.
I will check out the emerald ancestors site also.
Cheers

Hi Issy I have some info for you, I have a copy of he photo you posted of Thomas Loy on a previous thread. He was my g grandfather and was in the Irish Guards.

I have also some family history I have just obtained.

I have just joined his site so will take a bit of time to get myself familiar,,

Hi there, you mentioned they married, I'm assuming you've seen a marriage record c. 1880 onwards, what were the fathers names / occupations?
