COMPLETED Shorthand or just messy writing
« on: Thursday 12 February 09 17:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi

The image below is a witness statement of my Gt Gt Grandfather at the Inquest into the death of my Gt Gt Gt Gtandfather in 1897.

I know the first three words on the first line say
Lot Stevens of .....

Next line

Thomas Stevens 67years
everything else is a loss, does anyone know shorthand who help decipher what it says or at least confirm that whoever wrote the witness statements couldn't write.

2 other witness statements have have same hndwriting and are on an official document.

Thnaks

I don't know....with the dots and all that, it could bear a passing resemblance to Pitman's, but there were/are lots of shorthands.

The deceased is Thomas Stevens aged 67years he was the father of Lot Stevens who was the witness. Thomas's wife was called Hannah.

The death was following a fall from a horse and cart in Eppleby, Yorkshire.  I know the ins and outs of the inquest as I have a very well written report from the Policeman from forcett to the coroner.
