Aukland - Frankham and Bishop family
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 18:37 GMT (UK) »
Thankyou for the passenger list look-ups on this site. They have enabled me to bridge a gap in my family history.

I had been looking for clues to finding members of my family in New Zealand for a while. My grandfather talked of having relatives there. Then I found a 1939 obituary referring to 'a sister in New Zealand.'  There were 8 sisters so I had to look for them all - not knowing if they married before or after sailing. But eventually I found the family I wanted - and two sisters.

They travelled to Aukland on the Lauderdate arriving 30 Jan 1874.
The family consisted of
Walter Frankham age 33
Elizabeth Frankham age 33
Albert Frankham age 9
Amy Frankham age 7
Charles Frankham age 3
Edith Frankham age 6
Walter James Frankham age 11
Deborah Bishop age 23 (Elizabeth's sister)

I am keen to find out what happened to this family in New Zealand - especially Elizabeth and Deborah.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the family or any advice on how I should proceed next.

Thank you for any help

Liz

George Hamon Blampied

The name Blampied triggered my memory.  I grew up knowing a Blampied family that lived in the street behind us on the Shore many many years ago.

This Blampied was born about 1892.   But he might not be a descendant of the above, but a different Blampied family.

Cheers

Hi Liz  :)

Charles Henry Frankham listed as Timber Merchant

Walter James Frankham  listed as Accountant

No listings on Electoral Roll 1893,   wonder why?   any of you more experienced RC's got any ideas  or am I having a senior moment!  ???   Perhaps they weren't naturalised?

Mmmm ... 1893 E/roll  ... perhaps the surname was mis-spelt on roll  ?   (Frankham is quite an unusual name)    ???

They appear to have been British subjects, so "naturalisation" wouldn't have been an issue.
