Leeboy, I tired to save it to my favourites but when you right click the mouse it says 'function disabled'. I'll have a good look anyway thanks. Are you on facebook? I speak to many gypsies on there but it seems to be mostly Irish now.

If you're researching the real-life Gypsy families that the author George Borrow (1803-1881) knew and wrote about in his novels, you might find something of interest here:

http://borrowsgypsies.wordpress.com

I've created the site so I can share my info on these so-called 'Borrow’s Gypsies' of East Anglia, including things like newspaper reports and photos that have never been published online or in print before.

The family names include Smith, Draper, Robinson, Lee, Cooper, Chilcott, Whatnell, Boswell, Hope, Young, Heron, Lovell, Mace, Gray, Shaw, Buckley, Taylor, Pinfold, Gaskin, Brown and Franklin.

Happy hunting! And I look forward to your contributions too.

Best wishes
Sharon

There are some classic nineteenth-century works on gypsies freely accessible on the Internet Archive [http://www.archive.org/]. These include _In Gipsy Tents_, by Francis Hindes Groome [ http://www.archive.org/details/cu31924028693632], and some early volumes of the _Journal of the Gipsy Lore Society_, for example, vol 1 [http://www.archive.org/details/journalofgypsylo01gypsuoft], vol 2 [http://www.archive.org/details/journalgypsylor01socigoog] and vol 3 [http://www.archive.org/details/journalofgypsyl03gypsuoft].

Ann65, sorry to go off topic, Im a newby to Rootschat. Wife is related to Gray on fathers side (William and Tabitha) and Mobbs on Mothers side (James and Bethany). Do you still have a website up with the Gray family trees? (off topic again, Lincolnshire Archives have just installed a new computer system for their parish records, good on some searches but still a lot of teething troubles)
